Does Walmart own Asda?

It’s been almost a year since Walmart completed its takeover of Asda, and the two companies have been working hard to integration their operations. There are still some questions about the ownership of Asda, though. Does Walmart own Asda?

The answer is a bit complicated. Walmart does own a majority stake in Asda, but there are other shareholders as well.

The majority shareholder is actually a holding company called Argyll Partners, which is controlled by Walmart. However, there are also minority shareholders, including employees of Asda.

So, while Walmart does technically own Asda, it’s not a 100% ownership. There are other shareholders involved. However, Walmart is the controlling shareholder and has the majority stake in the company.
