Is Fred Meyer cheaper than Safeway?

When it comes to grocery shopping, saving money is always a top priority. But which store offers the best deals?

To find out, we did a price comparison of two popular grocery stores in the Northwest: Fred Meyer and Safeway.

Here are some of the items we compared:

  • Organic bananas
  • 2% milk
  • Eggs
  • Bread
  • Ground beef

The Results:

Overall, we found that Safeway was cheaper than Fred Meyer for most of the items on our list. The biggest difference we found was for organic bananas – Safeway was almost $0.50 cheaper per pound. For milk, eggs, and bread, Safeway’s prices were also lower than Fred Meyer’s.

The only item on our list that was cheaper at Fred Meyer was ground beef. For a pound of 80/20 ground beef, Fred Meyer was about $0.70 cheaper than Safeway.

The Bottom Line:

If you’re looking for the best deals on groceries, Safeway is generally the better choice over Fred Meyer. However, it’s always a good idea to check prices at both stores before you shop to make sure you’re getting the best deal on the items you need.
