Is Peet’s coffee owned by Starbucks?

The answer to this question is a little complicated, as Peet’s and Starbucks have had a complicated history. Peet’s was founded in 1966, and for many years it was a subsidiary of Starbucks. In 1998, however, Peet’s bought Starbucks’ European operations, and since then the two companies have been in a complicated relationship. In 2006, Peet’s bought a controlling stake in Starbucks, but the two companies still operate separately.

As of 2016, Starbucks maintains a 60% stake in Peet’s, while Peet’s owns 30%. It is unclear whether or not Starbucks will eventually sell its stake in Peet’s, but for now the two companies remain separate.
