Woodforest is a bank headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, United States, with branches throughout the Houston metropolitan area. It is a subsidiary of Woodforest National Bank Holding Company. As of December 31, 2015, Woodforest had $6.4 billion in assets and $4.5 billion in deposits.

Woodforest was founded in 1980 as a privately held bank with one branch in Montgomery County, Texas.

In 1985, the bank converted to a federal savings bank and changed its name to Woodforest Federal Savings Bank. In 2000, it changed its charter to a state-chartered commercial bank and its name to Woodforest National Bank. In 2003, the bank opened its first branch outside of Montgomery County in Conroe, Texas.

In 2005, Woodforest acquired controlling interest in Security State Bank Holding Company, the holding company for Security State Bank of East Texas. In 2007, Woodforest acquired Southwestern Bancorp, the holding company for The Southwestern National Bank of Cleburne.

In 2008, Woodforest was ranked #1 on Forbes’ list of “America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies”.

On January 26, 2009, Woodforest announced the acquisition of certain assets and deposits of Freedom Bank in Conroe, Texas. The acquisition increased Woodforest’s total assets to approximately $4.3 billion.
