In 1967, Consolidated Stores Corporation was founded by Sol A. Shenk. The company operated a number of discount stores under the names of Odd Lot, Big Lot, and MacFrugals.
In 1985, the company acquired the Liquor Barn and Liquor Barn Extra chain of liquor stores. In 2001, the company acquired the Assets of WH Group from Woolworth Corporation.
