Why did Kroger pull out of Lucky’s?

Kroger pulled out of Lucky’s in late 2017, about a year after the grocery chain had invested in the fast-casual chain. Kroger cited poor performance as the reason for its decision.

Lucky’s had struggled to make a dent in Kroger’s store base, and the company’s shares fell as a result. Kroger’s exit from the chain leaves Fast Casual LLC, the company that Lucky’s founders created when they left Kroger, as the only player in the market.
