Kobalt is a line of hand and mechanics’ tools, power tools, and tool storage products owned by the American home improvement retailer Lowe’s. Kobalt tools are manufactured by a variety of companies under contract for Lowe’s, including Stanley Black & Decker, Danaher Corporation, and Irwin Tools. The Kobalt brand was introduced in 1998.
Kobalt hand tools are private-labeled for Lowe’s and are made by Stanley Black & Decker, a publicly traded company that also owns the Craftsman brand of tools. Kobalt power tools are also private-labeled for Lowe’s and are made by a variety of manufacturers, including Danaher Corporation’s Bosch Power Tools division and Irwin Tools.
It is not clear who makes Kobalt tool chests for Lowe’s. However, it is likely that they are made by the same manufacturers as the hand tools and power tools – Stanley Black & Decker, Danaher Corporation, and Irwin Tools.
