As the world’s largest retailer, Walmart is always looking for ways to expand its reach and increase its market share. One way it has done this is by acquiring other companies.
In 2015, Walmart acquired the UK-based grocery chain Asda for $8.5 billion. This gave Walmart a strong foothold in the UK grocery market.
Since acquiring Asda, Walmart has been slowly but surely integrating it into the Walmart family. In 2018, Walmart announced that it was selling Asda to the UK-based supermarket chain Sainsbury’s for $10 billion. This move was seen as a way for Walmart to exit the UK grocery market and focus on its core markets in the US and Canada.
So what does this all mean for Asda? For now, it seems that nothing will change in the short term.
However, in the long term, it is possible that Asda could be absorbed into Sainsbury’s or even disappear altogether. Only time will tell what the future holds for Asda and its employees.
