AutoZone is a national chain of retail stores that specializes in automotive parts and accessories, including air conditioning parts and Freon. While AutoZone does not offer Freon installation services, the company does sell Freon and other air conditioning parts for do-it-yourselfers.
For those who are not familiar with Freon, it is a colorless, odorless gas that is used as a refrigerant in air conditioners. Freon is also used in other appliances such as refrigerators and freezers.
AutoZone sells Freon in canisters that hold 14.9 ounces of the gas.
Installing Freon in an air conditioner is not a difficult task, but it does require some knowledge of how the system works. The first step is to locate the low-pressure service port on the air conditioner.
The low-pressure service port will have a cap that is labeled with the word “low” or “L”. Once the low-pressure service port has been located, the cap should be removed and the canister of Freon should be attached to the port.
The next step is to open the valve on the canister of Freon. Once the valve has been opened, the canister should be held upright and allowed to discharge all of the gas into the air conditioner.
Once all of the gas has been discharged from the canister, the valve should be closed and the canister should be removed from the low-pressure service port. The final step is to replace the cap on the low-pressure service port.
Can AutoZone put Freon in your car? While AutoZone does not offer this service, they do sell Freon for those who would like to install it themselves.
