Wonder Woman 1984 is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, directed by Patty Jenkins and written by Allan Heinberg. The film is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures, with Jenkins serving as the film’s director, producer and lead writer.
It is the sequel to Jenkins’ 2017 film Wonder Woman and the fifth installment in the DC Extended Universe. The film stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, and Lucy Davis.
Wonder Woman 1984 was announced in October 2018, with Jenkins returning as director and Heinberg writing the script. The cast was announced in March 2019, with Jenkins, Gadot, Pine, Wright, Huston, Thewlis, Anaya, Bremner, and Davis reprising their roles from the 2017 film.
Principal photography began in the United Kingdom in May 2019, and ended in October 2019.
The film is set five years after the events of Wonder Woman and during the Cold War, as Wonder Woman fights the Soviet Union under the command of General Ludendorff. In an early scene, Diana is captured by the Soviets and brought to Siberia, where she is forced to battle the Winter Soldier.
The film also features appearances by Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg.
Based on reviews and feedback from Wonder Woman 1984’s development and marketing, many have speculated that the film may not be available to stream on Amazon Prime. Jenkins has spoken positively about the Amazon Prime service and its potential to reach a wide audience, but has not commented on whether or not Wonder Woman 1984 will be available to stream on Prime.
However, given that the film is set five years after the events of Wonder Woman and is not a direct sequel, it is possible that it may not be available to stream on Amazon Prime due to its continuity with the television series The CW’s Wonder Woman.
