Aldi and Lidl are two of the most popular supermarket chains in Europe. Both are known for their low prices and wide range of products. But which one opened first?

Aldi opened its first store in Essen, Germany in 1946. The company was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht, who took over their mother’s small grocery store. Aldi now has over 10,000 stores in 20 countries around the world.

Lidl opened its first store in 1973 in Neckarsulm, Germany. The company was founded by Dieter Schwarz, who also owns the Kaufland chain of Supermarkets. Lidl now has over 11,000 stores in 27 countries around the world.

So which supermarket chain opened first? Aldi!
