Asda Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the United Kingdom, operated by the telecoms subsidiary of British supermarket chain Asda. It was launched in March 2013 as a joint venture between Asda and EE, using EE’s network.
In January 2018, Asda Mobile moved from the EE network to the Vodafone network.
The changeover from EE to Vodafone was first announced in October 2017, with the migration taking place in January 2018. The move was made in order to give Asda Mobile customers access to Vodafone’s 4G network, as at the time of the announcement EE did not offer 4G services to MVNOs. All existing Asda Mobile customers were transferred to Vodafone automatically, with their phone numbers and plans remaining unchanged.
The switch to Vodafone has been generally positive, with customers reporting better signal strength and coverage, particularly in rural areas. There have also been some negative reports, with some customers finding that their data speeds have slowed down since moving to Vodafone. Overall, though, the move has been seen as a positive one for Asda Mobile and its customers.
