Did Walgreens buy out Rite Aid?

Walgreens bought out Rite Aid in 2015 for $13.9 billion. This move was seen as a way to consolidate the drug stores, and make them more efficient. At the time of the merger, Walgreens had around 2,384 stores compared to Rite Aid’s 2,912.

However, Walgreens has since opened more stores, so the number now stands at around 3,928. It is also worth noting that Rite Aid has since filed for bankruptcy, so the purchase may not have been the best decision for the company.
