Ace Hardware is a hardware store chain in the United States and other countries. It is known for its customer service and its “Helpful Hardware Man” slogan.
Ace Hardware was founded in 1924 by Richard Hesse, Ethel Percy Andrassy, and Frank Ace. It was originally named Ace Stores, and operated as a cooperative of Chicago-area hardware store owners. The owners of the Ace stores purchased the rights to the name “Ace” from the Middleton Company, a wholesale hardware company.
The first Ace store was opened in Oak Park, Illinois. By 1931, there were already 43 Ace stores in operation. In 1935, the company was renamed Ace Hardware Corporation.
