Does Albertsons own Vons?

Albertsons LLC is an American supermarket chain headquartered in Boise, Idaho, with stores across the United States. Albertsons was founded in 1939 by Joe Albertson. The company also owns and operates the Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, and Acme Markets chains in the United States.

The company had its origins in a small grocery store opened by Joe Albertson in Boise, Idaho in 1939. The store grew quickly and by 1946 had 10 locations.

In 1959, the chain merged with Skaggs Drug Centers, Inc., owner of the Skaggs grocery chain based in American Fork, Utah. The merger created a grocery store chain of 2,600 stores across 27 states under the names of Albertsons, Skaggs, and Cub Foods (a separate chain that Skaggs owned).

In 1968, Albertsons was sold to a group of investors led by Charles Butt for $12 million. Butt merged the chain with Horn & Hardart Company’s food service division to form FoodFair Stores Inc., which operated Supermarkets under the FoodFair and Albertsons banners as well as automat restaurants and drugstores under other names.

In 1977, FoodFair was sold to tobacco company R. J. Reynolds which then spun off its non-tobacco assets including the grocery store chains a few years later. The new company was initially called ValuMerchant and then changed its name to Albertsons Companies Inc. in 1999. In 2015 it was announced that AB Acquisitions LLC (Albertsons) would buy Safeway Inc., creating a grocery store behemoth with over 2,000 stores across 35 states and Washington D.C..

The deal was completed on January 30th 2015 and Safeway became a wholly owned subsidiary of AB Acquisitions LLC (Albertsons). So now the answer to Does Albertsons own Vons is yes they do!
