Does Asda still own Walmart?

Asda is a UK-based supermarket chain that is owned by Walmart. As of 2019, Walmart also owns a majority stake in Asda’s parent company, Walmart UK.

Asda was founded in 1949 and has been part of the Walmart family since 1999. As of 2019, Asda has 596 stores across the UK, employing over 180,000 people.

In 2018, Walmart announced its plans to sell a majority stake in Asda to the UK-based private equity firm, Advent International. However, the deal was blocked by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in 2019.

As a result of the CMA’s decision, Walmart still owns Asda and continues to operate it as a separate business. However, it is possible that Advent International may make another attempt to buy Asda in the future.
