Hobby Lobby is a chain of arts and crafts stores founded in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1972. The company is privately owned and operated by the Green family. Charles Green founded Hobby Lobby in 1972 with 900 square feet (84 m2) of retail space.
The first store was located in an old bowling alley. By 1976, there were ten stores in Oklahoma and Kansas. In 1992, Hobby Lobby began offering products on a direct-sale basis to customers through its mail-order catalog and telephone sales operation.
Hobby Lobby sells a wide variety of items, including picture frames, scrapbooking supplies, yarn, fabric, flowers, artificial plants and trees, baskets, wearable art, home accents, holiday items, and party supplies. The company also sells online through its website.
