Becoming a USPS mailman is a long, arduous process that takes years of training and experience. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a U.S. citizen. They must also pass a physically and mentally demanding examination.
After completing all the requirements, mailmen must still pass a background check and a performance evaluation. If all goes well, mailmen can then start their training. The training process can take up to two years, and once it is completed, mailmen must complete a yearlong probationary period. If everything continues to go well, mailmen can then be hired and begin their career.
