How does a chargeback work with PayPal?

When a customer disputes a purchase with their credit card issuer, the credit card company will investigate and attempt to resolve the dispute. If the dispute cannot be resolved, the credit card company will issue a chargeback to PayPal.

When PayPal receives a chargeback for a purchase, we will investigate the dispute and determine whether the purchase was fraudulent or unauthorized. We will then refund the customer the purchase amount, minus any applicable fees.

Since chargebacks are a dispute between a customer and their credit card issuer, they are usually processed fairly quickly. However, given the heightened scrutiny on PayPal and the potential for chargebacks related to fraud, we take our responsibility to investigate and resolve disputes seriously.
