Advance Auto Parts was founded in 1932 by Richard E. Hopkins and Arthur Taubman. The company started as a small chain of auto parts stores in Roanoke, Virginia.
In 1955, the company was purchased by General Parts Incorporated. In 1986, General Parts was acquired by Advance Stores Company, Incorporated (NYSE: ASO), which was renamed Advance Auto Parts in 2001.
