There are 12 pinwheels in a small Publix tray. To make a pinwheel, you will need:
- 1/4 sheet of construction paper
- Tape
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Ruler or yardstick
Instructions:
- Cut a 1-inch strip off one long side of the construction paper.
- With the remaining paper, make a mark at the center point. Fold the paper in half lengthwise and crease well.
- Unfold . Then fold each side to the center crease. Then fold each side in half to the first crease. At this point, you should have 8 equal sections.

(optional) Make a slit at the center of each triangle so that it will lay flat when opened.
(optional) Decorate your pinwheel with markers or crayons.
- Cut a small square out of the center of the strip. This will be used to secure the pinwheel to the straw.

Poke a hole at the very end of each triangle.
7. Push a pencil through the holes and secure with tape.
8. Attach the square piece of paper to one end of the pencil.
9. Bend the pencil until all the triangles meet in the middle.
10. Tape or glue the ends together.
11. Cut a small slit in the center of the square piece of paper.
- Insert one end of a straw into this slit.
