Publix is a Florida-based grocery store chain with locations throughout the southeastern United States. Founded in 1930, Publix has grown to become one of the largest employee-owned grocery chains in the country. As of 2019, Publix has more than 1,200 stores in operation, including locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Publix first expanded outside of Florida in 1991, when it opened a store in Georgia. The company has since expanded rapidly throughout the southeastern United States.
Today, there are more than 200 Publix stores in Georgia alone. The company entered the Virginia market in 2005 and now has more than 60 stores in the state.
