How much is Glenmorangie in Asda?

Glenmorangie is a world-famous single malt Scotch whisky, produced in the Highland town of Tain, Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands. The Glenmorangie Company owns and operates two distilleries: the original Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, and the Ardbeg Distillery on Islay.

The name Glenmorangie is Gaelic for “Valley of Tranquility”. The distillery was founded in 1843 by William Matheson, who bought two existing distilleries in the Morangie farmstead in the Tarlogie Springs area. He renamed the distillery Glenmorangie, meaning “Valley of Tranquility”, after the farmstead.

The original distillery was designed by Charles Doig of Elgin. It had six stills and could produce 12,000 gallons (54,000 litres) of spirit per week.

The distillery was expanded in 1887 with the addition of two more stills, and again in 1896 with a further two stills. In 1918, due to World War I, production was reduced to half its capacity.

In 1971, Glenmorangie was bought by Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd., which itself was later bought by Allied Lyons. In 1987, the distillery was expanded again, with four more stills being added.

In 1990, Allied Domecq bought Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd., and as a result Glenmorangie became part of Allied Domecq’s Scotch whisky portfolio. In 2005, Pernod Ricard purchased Allied Domecq, and as a result Glenmorangie became part of Pernod Ricard’s portfolio of brands.

Glenmorangie is currently available in Asda stores across the UK for £27.99 for a 70cl bottle
