Advance Auto Parts is an American automotive parts retailer, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina. As of 2019, it operated 3,827 stores across the United States.
The company was founded in 1932 by Richard E. Gibb and his brother-in-law J.W. Gilbert in Roanoke, Virginia, as Advance Stores.
In 1992, it became a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker AAP. In October 2013, Advance Auto Parts purchased General Parts International, Inc., a leading distributor of original equipment and aftermarket automotive products to professional installers in North America and the Caribbean.
In July 2018, Advance Auto Parts announced that it would be relocating its corporate headquarters from Roanoke to Raleigh, North Carolina.
