Banfield Pet Hospital is the largest veterinary practice in the United States. Founded in 1955, Banfield now operates more than 950 hospitals in 42 states and Puerto Rico.
Banfield is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated, and offers a variety of veterinary services to pets and their owners. These services include preventive care, diagnostics, surgery, and more.
In recent years, Banfield has been the subject of some controversy. In 2015, the company was accused of overcharging customers for services and of pressuring employees to sell unnecessary products and services to customers.
In 2016, Banfield came under fire again when it was revealed that the company had been putting healthy dogs and cats to death in its shelters. This practice, known as “euthanasia,” is legal in most states but is generally frowned upon by the public.
In 2017, Banfield announced that it was leaving Petsmart, its longtime partner. This decision was met with mixed reactions from the public.
Some people were happy to see Banfield go, citing the company’s controversial practices. Others were sad to see Banfield go, as they felt that Petsmart was providing a valuable service to pet owners.
So far, there is no word on where Banfield will be setting up shop next. Only time will tell if this move will be a good or a bad one for the company.
