After years of decline, Circuit City is finally gone. The last store closed its doors on Sunday, making Best Buy the last major national electronics retailer standing.
It’s been a long and slow decline for Circuit City. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and was bought by Systemax in 2009.
But it was never able to turn things around, and as recently as last year was still losing money. In the end, the company just couldn’t keep up with Best Buy’s online presence and customer service.
Best Buy is now the undisputed leader in the electronics retail space. It’s not just the last man standing, but it’s also in a much stronger position than it was even a few years ago. Thanks to its aggressive expansion into new product categories like appliances and wearable technology, Best Buy is poised to continue dominating the market for years to come.
So, is Circuit City now Best Buy In a sense, yes.
But Best Buy is also much more than that. It’s a thriving company with a bright future ahead of it.
