Dunkin’ Donuts has been in the news recently because they are reportedly closing 2020.
Rumors of the chain’s closure started circulating in early 2019 when a number of Dunkin’ Donuts locations in the Northeast shut down. The closures were followed by reports that Dunkin’ Donuts locations in the Midwest were being closed as well.
As of mid-2019, there were reports that all Dunkin’ Donuts locations in the United Kingdom were closed.
Closing of Dunkin’ Donuts locations has been linked to a number of issues, including the rise of Starbucks and the competition from other chains such as Dunkin’ Brands (which includes Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin Robbins, and Krispy Kreme) and McDonald’s. Dunkin’ Donuts has also been struggling to keep up with changes in the coffee market, with the rise of specialty coffee shops.
