As one of the largest home improvement retailers in the United States, it’s only natural that people assume Lowe’s owns Lowes Foods. After all, they share a similar name and logo.
However, that is not the case. Lowes Foods is actually owned by a different company altogether.
So, if Lowe’s doesn’t own Lowes Foods, who does? The answer is a bit complicated. Lowes Foods was originally founded in 1954 in North Wilkesboro, NC. It was acquired by Alex Lee, Inc. in 1961.
Alex Lee is a foodservice distribution company that is also based in North Wilkesboro, NC. In turn, Alex Lee is owned by BB&T Corporation. So, while Lowe’s may not own Lowes Foods, there is still a connection between the two companies – they’re both based in North Wilkesboro!
