PayPal is a global payment platform that allows users to make and receive payments online. PayPal was originally created in December 1998 as an online payment service provider.
In January 2000, PayPal merged with E-Bay to become one of the largest online payment companies in the world.
In 2014, PayPal acquired Braintree, a payment processing company, for $800 million. This acquisition gave PayPal access to millions of customers who use Braintree to process payments for businesses.
In October 2018, PayPal announced that it would be moving its core processing to blockchain technology. This move was seen as a way to reduce the company’s dependence on third-party processors and to improve security.
While PayPal is good for making and receiving payments online, it is not good for crypto transactions. PayPal is not licensed as a financial institution, and as a result, it is not allowed to hold or trade cryptocurrencies.
