To find out, we compared prices on 30 different items at both Lowe’s and Home Depot. On our more general shopping list, 11 products were cheaper at Lowe’s, with average savings of just over 13 percent. Home Depot undercut Lowe’s on only 9 items, by an average of just over 9 percent.

When it came to the more specific items on our list, like lumber and concrete, Home Depot was cheaper across the board. In fact, the only instance in which Lowe’s was cheaper was on a single bag of quikrete concrete mix.

So if you’re looking for the best deals on home improvement items, it’s worth checking both stores. However, if you’re looking for a particular style of product, you may want to head to Lowe’s.
