When shopping for baskets at Ikea, it can be tricky to know what size and type will fit in the Billy shelf. In this article, we will outline the different types of baskets and their corresponding size measurements to help you find the perfect fit for your needs.
Ikea Billy baskets come in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit a variety of needs. The most common type of Ikea Billy basket is the tier basket.
Tier baskets are made up of three layers: a bottom layer, a middle layer, and an upper layer. Tier baskets can be used for storage, like clothes, linens, and towels, or for organizing small items, like pens and pencils.
To find the right size for your tier basket, measure the depth, in inches, of the items you would like to store. Next, multiply this depth by 2.
To find the width of the basket, divide the depth by 2. Finally, measure the width of the basket and round up to the nearest inch.
For example, if you want to store items that are 2 inches deep and 3 inches wide, your measurements would be 12 inches wide by 18 inches deep. If you want to store items that are 2 inches deep and 2.5 inches wide, your measurements would be 10.
5 inches wide by 17.5 inches deep.
Baskets that are not made out of tiers, like the bench basket, come in two different sizes. The bench basket is 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep and the stacking basket is 24 inches wide by 18 inches deep.
Both baskets can hold up to 30 pounds.
To fit a basket in the Billy shelf, first find the correct size by measuring the width and depth of the basket. Next, line the bottom of the basket up against the back of the shelf.
If the basket does not have a lip, like the stacking basket, wrap the bottom of the basket around the back of the shelf. Then, fit the top of the basket over the lip of the shelf and tighten the screw.
