Best Buy was founded by Richard M. Schulze and Gary Smoliak in 1966 as an audio specialty store. In 1983, it was renamed and rebranded with more emphasis placed on consumer electronics.
Best Buy now has over 1,400 stores in the United States, more than any other state. Minnesota has the second most Best Buy stores with over 100 locations. California, Texas, Illinois, and New York round out the top five states with the most Best Buy stores.
While Best Buy is certainly present in all 50 states, it’s clear that the company has a strong presence in the Midwest and Central United States. This is likely due to a combination of factors including population density, income levels, and competition from other retailers.
