Kohl’s is an American department store retail chain, founded in 1962. It is the second largest department store chain in the United States as of February 2013.
Based on 2012 revenue, Kohl’s is the 23rd-largest retailer in the United States. As of 2013, Kohl’s has 1,158 stores in 49 states.
Kohl’s was founded by Maxwell Kohl, who opened his first store in Brookfield, Wisconsin in 1962. He was the son of Polish immigrants.
The chain acquired 12 former A&P locations in late 2013 as part of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company’s bankruptcy.
