Albertsons is an American supermarket chain that was founded in 1939. As of 2016, Albertsons operates 2,207 stores across the United States.

Albertsons was founded by Joe Albertson in Boise, Idaho. The first store opened on August 3, 1939.

The chain grew steadily throughout the 1940s and 1950s, and by 1964, there were 100 stores in the chain. In 2015, Albertsons announced it would be acquired by Cerberus Capital Management.

As of 2016, Albertsons operates stores in 35 states and Washington D.C. The states with the most Albertsons stores are California (366), Idaho (161), Montana (158), Nevada (148), and Wyoming (145).
