Safeway’s primary base of operations is in the western and central United States, with some stores located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the Eastern Seaboard. The subsidiary is headquartered in Pleasanton, California with its parent company Albertsons headquartered in Boise, Idaho.

Safeway operates stores under the banners of Safeway, Vons (in Southern California), Randalls (in Houston), Tom Thumb (in Dallas/Fort Worth), Carrs (in Alaska), Pak ‘n Save (in Northern California) and Dominick’s (in Chicago area).

As of February 2, 2013, Safeway had 1,330 stores across the United States and Canada, with sales of $40.2 billion.
