Kroger Holdings, Inc. announced on Feb. 2, 2019 that it had completed its acquisition of Dillon, Scott, National Association, the largest U.S.
grocery chain with 1,825 stores. The acquisition was completed for a total value of $3.3 billion, and the companies will operate as one under the Kroger banner.
The deal was first announced in December 2018, and it was completed in just over a year. Kroger said that it plans to keep the Dillon’s name and operate the stores as usual.
The company said that the acquisition will help it compete with larger chains like Walmart and Amazon.
The acquisition will give Kroger a bigger presence in the South and Midwest, as well as help it compete with Amazon. Kroger said that it will use the money from the acquisition to help expand its online presence and to open new stores.
