Advance Auto Parts is one of the largest auto parts retailers in the United States. The company operates over 5,000 stores in 40 states and employs over 74,000 people.
The company was founded in 1932 by J. Frank Brewer and Arthur Taubman. The first store was located in Roanoke, Virginia. Advance Auto Parts went public in 1971 and has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1978.
The company has been through several changes in ownership and management over the years. In 2013, Advance Auto Parts was acquired by General Atlantic and Carlyle Group for $2.04 billion.
In July 2017, Advance Auto Parts announced that it was acquiring General Parts International for $2 billion. The deal was completed in October 2017.
Advance Auto Parts is currently led by CEO Tom Greco. Greco joined Advance Auto Parts in 2014 and has been serving as CEO since 2015.
