McDonald’s has been selling Happy Meals since 1984. In 2006, the company decided to discontinue the Happy Meal in favor of a new meal plan that included more nutritious choices. The new meal plan was met with resistance from parents, who continued to purchase Happy Meals for their children. In 2013, McDonald’s reintroduced the Happy Meal as part of its “Kids’ Meal” line.
However, this version of the Happy Meal includes only limited choices and does not include any toys. McDonald’s has yet to announce a permanent discontinuation of the Happy Meal.
