Why is Wendy’s logo a girl?

Wendy’s is an American fast food restaurant chain founded by Dave Thomas on November 15, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio. The company moved its headquarters to Dublin, Ohio, on January 29, 2006.

As of 2016, Wendy’s was the world’s third largest hamburger fast-food chain with 6,537 locations, following Burger King’s 15,738 locations and McDonald’s’ 36,615 locations. On April 24, 2008, the company announced a merger with Triarc Companies Inc., a publicly traded company and the parent company of Arby’s. Despite the new ownership, Wendy’s headquarters remained in Dublin.

Wendy’s logo is a red-haired girl with freckles named Wendy. According to Thomas, he named the restaurant after his fourth child Melinda Lou “Wendy” Thomas.

The logo was created by Richard Tallent of Tallent Associates. The original logo featured a little girl with braids in a blue and white striped shirt with overalls.

In 1983, Tallent redesigned the logo to feature a more mature-looking girl. The current logo was introduced in March 2012 and features a girl with red hair.
