Will DoorDash deliver cigarettes?

DoorDash, a mobile app that delivers food, has announced that it will begin delivering cigarettes in select cities across the United States. The move comes as a direct response to the growing trend of states passing laws banning the sale of cigarettes to minors, and follows similar moves by other major food delivery companies like Uber Eats and Grubhub.

Though the service will initially be available in select cities, DoorDash says that it plans to expand to more cities over time.

The move is likely to be controversial, given the fact that cigarettes are known to be harmful both to the smoker and to those around them. But given the fact that food delivery is a service that is increasingly being used by young people as an alternative to traditional forms of transportation, it will be interesting to see how the public responds to DoorDash’s decision to start delivering cigarettes.
