Is there Albertsons in Denver?

Albertsons is a grocery store chain in the United States. It is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. As of February 2015, it is the second-largest grocery store chain in the United States by sales volume, with 2,255 stores across 34 states and the District of Columbia. The company’s corporate name was originally Albertson’s Inc., but was changed to Albertsons Companies LLC in 2015.

Albertsons was founded by Joe Albertson on August 18, 1939 in Boise, Idaho. The original store was located at 16th and State Streets.

Albertsons was an early adopter of self-service markets and expanded rapidly throughout the 1950s. In 1964, the chain introduced a new concept called “supermarkets” and built a large distribution center in Idaho.

By 1968, there were 52 Albertsons stores in five states. In 1977, Albertsons was sold to Joe Albertson’s son, Robert B. Albertson, who took over as CEO. In the 1980s, Albertsons began to expand aggressively outside of its core market area.

In 1988, it purchased a controlling interest in American Stores Company, which owned Jewel-Osco and Osco Drug stores. The acquisition more than doubled the number of Albertson’s stores and made it the largest grocery store chain in America. The company continued to grow in the 1990s, purchasing several regional grocery store chains.

In 1999, Albertsons announced a merger with Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc., which added more than 200 stores to the company’s portfolio. In 2015, the company completed a $3 billion merger with Safeway Inc., which added more than 2,000 stores to its network.
