Does the Mormon Church own Albertsons?

In many ways, the Mormon Church and Albertsons are a perfect match. Both are based in Idaho, founded by men with a vision to build something big, and both have a reputation for being conservative and family-friendly. But does the Mormon Church own Albertsons?

The answer is a bit complicated. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church) does not own Albertsons outright. However, the church is one of the largest shareholders of Albertsons Companies, Inc., the parent company of Albertsons Supermarkets.

As of 2019, the Mormon Church held around 5.4 million shares of Albertsons Companies, Inc., which represented about 2.3% of the company’s total shares outstanding. The church’s stake in Albertsons is worth an estimated $1 billion as of 2019.

While the Mormon Church doesn’t own Albertsons outright, it does have a significant financial interest in the company and its success.
