Wendy’s is an American fast food restaurant chain founded by Dave Thomas on November 15, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio. The company has more than 6,500 locations and is the third-largest hamburger chain in the world behind McDonald’s and Burger King.
Wendy’s menu consists primarily of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, Frosty desserts, and soft drinks. Wendy’s also offers salads, chili, baked potatoes, and side items. The company does not franchise outside the United States.
In March 2020, Wendy’s announced that it would be selling $2.3 billion worth of company-owned restaurants to franchisees. This move is part of Wendy’s goal to become a fully franchised company by the end of 2020.
Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor said in a statement that the move will help Wendy’s “accelerate our growth and better position us for long-term success.” He added that Wendy’s is “committed to building an even stronger brand.”
