The company was founded in 1932 by Richard Welch as Advance Stores. In 1999, Advance Stores changed its name to Advance Auto Parts. In 2013, it completed its acquisition of General Parts International, Inc., a leading distributor and manufacturer of original equipment and aftermarket automotive replacement parts and services.
