Mexico has a long history of prohibition, with the country banning the sale of alcohol in 1920 and cannabis in 1937. Cannabis has been decriminalized in Mexico since 2007, but Taco Bell has not yet been allowed into the country. In February of this year, the Mexican Supreme Court upheld a ban on the Mexican franchise of Taco Bell, ruling that the American fast food chain was not in compliance with food safety regulations. The court stated that Taco Bell was using unauthorized ingredients, including meat from animals that have not been slaughtered in a specific way, which could lead to food poisoning.
The court also ruled that Taco Bell’s use of bright colors and unhealthy items made it an unhealthy option for Mexican consumers. Despite this ruling, Taco Bell has not yet withdrawn from the Mexican market.
