Lucky is a supermarket chain in the United States that was founded in San Francisco, California in 1935 by Charles Crouch. The company is currently headquartered in Pleasanton, California. As of February 2015, Lucky operates 130 stores across the western United States.
In 1999, Albertsons and Lucky merged to form the Albertsons Companies Inc. The merger created a grocery store powerhouse with a combined total of 2,361 stores and $16 billion in annual sales. The merger made Albertsons the second largest grocery store chain in the United States behind only Kroger.
