Does Amazon own Barnes Noble?

In 1997, Amazon.com acquired bookseller Barnes & Noble. At the time, the bookseller was struggling financially and Amazon saw potential in Barnes & Noble’s physical bookstores and its large inventory of books. In 2010, Amazon announced that it was selling its bookstores and that it would no longer carry any physical books.

However, Barnes & Noble continues to operate as a subsidiary of Amazon. In March 2017, Amazon announced that it was purchasing Goodreads, a social reading and rating service, for $300 million. This could be seen as an attempt by Amazon to compete with the likes of Facebook and Google in the social media space.
