Wendy’s is an American fast food restaurant chain founded by Dave Thomas on November 15, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio. As of 2016, Wendy’s was the world’s third largest hamburger fast food chain with 6,537 locations, following Burger King’s 15,243 locations and McDonald’s’ 36,615 locations. On April 24, 2008, the company announced a partnership with Starboard Value LP to purchase the company.
The restaurant is known for its square hamburgers, sea salt fries and Frosty (a trademarked frozen dessert).
Wendy’s menu consists primarily of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, salads and frosties. Since phasing out their “Old Fashioned Hamburgers” in 2006, the company does not sell any burgers with square patties. Wendy’s uses square hamburger patties – which they call “Dave’s Single”, “Double”, and “Triple” – in place of round ones.
As of March 2018, Wendy’s had 7,025 locations worldwide with 618 company-owned and 6,407 franchised restaurants.
