Kohl’s has over 1,100 stores in 49 states and operates its ecommerce business through two primary distribution centers. One is located in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, where the company is headquartered, and the other is located near Memphis, Tennessee. Kohl’s also operates a handful of smaller fulfillment centers that support its stores and ecommerce business. Kohl’s first distribution center was opened in 1990 in an effort to support the company’s growing store base.
The Menomonee Falls facility is approximately 1.3 million square feet and ships to all Kohl’s stores across the country. The Memphis distribution center, which opened in 2007, is approximately 1.5 million square feet and primarily ships to stores in the eastern and southern United States. Kohl’s has made a number of investments in its distribution network in recent years as it looks to keep pace with the growth of its store base and ecommerce business. In 2015, the company completed a $250 million expansion of its Menomonee Falls distribution center that added nearly 400,000 square feet of space to the facility. And in 2017, Kohl’s announced plans to build a new 1 million square foot distribution center near Chicago that will open in 2019.
Kohl’s currently operates two large distribution centers, with plans to add a third near Chicago in 2019. The company has made significant investments in its fulfillment capabilities in recent years as it looks to keep pace with growth in both its store base and ecommerce business. With over 1,100 stores across 49 states, Kohl’s has a significant presence across the United States.
