Is Asda UK still owned by Walmart?

Asda is a British supermarket chain owned by Walmart. It was founded in the 1960s and has since grown to become one of the largest food retailers in the UK. As of 2019, Asda had a market share of around 15% of the UK grocery market.

Asda has been owned by Walmart since 1999, when the US company acquired a majority stake in the business. However, in recent years there have been rumours that Walmart might sell its stake in Asda.

In 2018, it was reported that Walmart was in talks to sell Asda to another supermarket chain, Sainsbury’s. However, these talks ultimately broke down and no sale took place.

As of 2019, Walmart still owns a majority stake in Asda and there are no plans to sell the business. This means that, for the foreseeable future, Asda will remain a British supermarket chain owned by an American company.
